PRESS RELEASE: Engage Insurance Group and Mental Health America of the Heartland are Award Winners of the 2021 Make More Happen Foundation

Overland Park, September 2021 - Engage Insurance Group, a Risk Management and Insurance Firm, announced that they are the recipient of the 2021 Liberty Mutual/Safeco Make More Happen Award that will provide a grant to Mental Health America of the Heartland to continue to help those in the community that struggle with mental illness.

“We are ecstatic and humbled by the news we received from our partners Liberty Mutual/Safeco about the $5,000 grant to help Mental Health America of the Heartland continue its mission of providing care, early identification and intervention for those at risk, which will eventually put them on a path to recovery,” said Juan C Luengo, CEO of Engage Insurance Group. “Mental illness can be catastrophic if it’s not being taken care of appropriately. This award is an outreach to those that are seeking help and letting them know that there is hope for them.”

“Mental Health America of the Heartland (MHAH) is grateful for our community partner Liberty Mutual/Safeco, and we are so excited to be an award winner of the 2021 Make More Happen Foundation.  There is a growing epidemic of poor mental health and mental illness in our country today.  We don’t wait years to get a diagnosis and treat diabetes, cancer, or heart disease,” said Susan Crain Lewis, President/CEO of Mental Health America of the Heartland.  “We should do the same for individuals who are dealing with a potential serious mental illness.  The funds provided by this award make it possible for us to continue offering resources and hope to those persons struggling with mental health issues through our services and programs,” said Susan Lewis, CEO of Mental Health America of the Heartland.

MHAH provides resources, support and access to housing for people diagnosed with a mental illness in eastern Kansas and western Missouri. It helps individuals overcome barriers related to their mental health diagnosis so they can get the resources and services they need and deserve, as well as live successfully with or in spite of their illness.

Expanding access to housing is a big part of the organization’s work. MHAH’s Heartland Housing Initiative gives formerly homeless individuals with a mental health diagnosis a path to permanent, safe and affordable housing in 44 fully furnished homes. The services provided vary and are tailored to meet the individual residents’ needs and wants. These facilities offer comprehensive on-site support that includes symptom and side-effect management, peer support, medication management as requested and a wide range of educational and employment services.

Mental Health America of the Heartland (MHAH) is dedicated to improving the quality of life for those with mental illness through advocacy, education and support.  To cast your vote, use the social media or leave a comment below.  If the nonprofit reaches 500 votes, the $5,000 donation they’ve already earned doubles to $10,000.  Your vote will make a difference!

The Make More Happen Award recognizes independent agents extraordinary community service. Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance are giving agents a platform to support the causes that hit closest to home. The organization is putting $1,000,000 in nonprofit giving into the hands of agents. The funding is being made available through the Independent Agent Giving initiative, which will distribute nearly 150 individual emergency grants by the end of May to nonprofits nominated by independent agents.
